State of Affairs : CYFD story lacks context

Once again Alamogordo residents are cheated out of any context due to the marginal reporting of Alamogordo Daily News “reporter” Michael Shinabery. This week Shinabery wasted an excellent opportunity to actually report something instead blathering on in confusion. Essentially Shinabery took a gripe from an Otero County Sheriff’s Deputy and turned it into yet another of his sensationalized context-free ramblings. We are thankful that Shinabery did at least raise the issue. This way there is a chance to actually look at the situation reported in something other than the emotional free-for-all typical of this reporter. Let’s take a deep breath and see what this (story) is all about.

Imagine being hit over and over again with rocks the size of a softball or being struck by hay bales in the back of the head or getting a black eye as a result of being hit with a closed fist. What does it feel like to get your fingers squeezed together with a set of pliers? Picture getting hit with a 2x4, hit with a lariat, struck with a hay hook on your hand cutting it open or being threatened with the use of it on your genitals. Imagine being roped and dragged or experiencing water and food deprivation. Imagine all of these things happening not to you, but to your 10-14 year old son or brother.

Around Town : District Attorney Scot Key's staff indicted

After 6 months of speculation an Otero County Grand Jury has returned indictments against former 12 Judicial District Attorney's Office Finance Manager Frank Cavazos and clerk Pam Clark for systematically looting the office in a series of fraudulent transactions. Our affiliate, Mountain Mail Country, told you about this back in September 2005.
