State of Affairs : DA Key declines charging "Kidnapper"
Published on Tue Dec 18, 2007 2:40 pm

Michael Morris – In Focus

In our breaking news section DA Scott Key has declined to file any abduction charges against Fred Jacob Hoberman who was made the subject of an interstate manhunt over the weekend after Otero County Undersheriff Norbert Sanchez misrepresented the situation to State Police in order to get them to issue an Amber Alert. Otero Sheriff John Blansett informed the Alamogordo Times by phone earlier today of the decision by the DA not to file charges on the supposed kidnapping.

State of Affairs : "Fake" Amber Alert stirs community
Published on Tue Dec 18, 2007 8:40 am

Michael Morris – In Focus

The recent false Amber Alert in Alamogordo adorning the front page of the Alamogordo Daily News is a rather fine example of mis-understanding the Amber Alert system by law enforcement and an even greater lack of attention by the brain dead press. So, what is the problem? First off what was reported is not in any way the kind of “abduction” contemplated by the system. Misusing the Amber Alert system in this way dilutes the usefulness of the system by not only clogging the system, but also by desensitizing the public by polluting the stranger abductee system with what amounts to nothing more than a case of custodial interference.

State of Affairs : Marietta Biscuit takes center stage in Commission fate
Published on Mon Dec 17, 2007 11:50 pm

Michael Morris – In Focus

Mark your calendars for today folks. On a single vote on Item 17 Tuesday the Alamogordo City Commission will cast its lot in full equality with the latest Economic Development bakery, Marietta Biscuit Company. The agenda item is adding another $200,000 to the bakery handout. Marietta, apparently a bit less solvent that this Commission had led us to believe after their series of unwholesome secret meetings where this latest beggar got this plant, and your $2,000,000 for a song, well, and a dance too.

In the courts : Where is the Grub Steakhouse suit?
Published on Thu Dec 6, 2007 10:30 pm

Michael Morris – In Focus

Some of you may be wondering what has happened with the ravings misnamed a lawsuit filed by con artist Henry Morgan Smith against the Sheriff et al. Well, it has been over a month since Smith took your donations then filed this “suit” claiming to be too poor to pay the filing fee. Just to update the case #07-cv-01107 has not budged since its filing except for a shuffling of Magistrates. There is no record of service upon the defendants signaling that Smith merely used this ruse to fleece the unsuspecting and unquestioning. Morgan thanks you for the lobster.

State of Affairs : Sunbaked Biscuits Revisited?
Published on Thu Dec 6, 2007 9:50 pm

Michael Morris – In Focus

Over the last few weeks there have been a few nuggets of information seeping from under the doors of the Marietta Biscuit Company. Unfortunately the news has been more of the same stories that have become the defining traits of the "revival" of the former Presto Plant. This week we are treated to the City Commission assisting Marietta in the procurement of another $200,000 in tax dollars. Obviously we the people have become the venture capitalists intended to buy votes for politicians who cannot even keep the streets paved. So why is Marietta Biscuit Company begging for yet another handout from the taxpayers?

State of Affairs : If you had only known

I have no idea what the curriculum of Journalism 101 consists of, so I will explain Morrisism 101 in its stead. Not surprisingly our subject will be what I will call, for sensationalism's sake, The Grubstake Affair. More specifically I will try to tackle why the Alamogordo Daily News, more accurately the Alternate Dimension News, failed to attach even a pinch of objectivity to their cheerleading efforts on behalf of a man who seems to lack an appropriate portion of sanity.

State of Affairs : Anon Reader Comment Deserves an Answer
Published on Wed Nov 7, 2007 12:40 am

Michael Morris - In Focus

Usually when I get a comment form of the hostile nature I send a quick reply just to confirm that the email is valid before wasting my time on the phony email and name or even location that has been the trademark of the vast majority of the bold critics of my writing. Since the writers apparently did not want a reply it was dropped. Today, however, a comment came in that is so general interest and on point in every respect it deserves an answer even though its scribe does not.

State of Affairs : Thus saith the Lord...

For those of you wondering why it is Lord Karl Anderson over at the Alamogordo Daily News never seems to be able to give us the facts of the matter I have a thought that might help. The State of California was wondering just the same thing back in 19978 when it convicted then Karl D. Anderson of the crime of perjury in connection with some unlawful dealing with exotic animals. The terms of the plea bargain found the state dropping the forgery charges also brought in the case. For those of you unfamiliar with perjury it means lying under oath.

In the courts : Grubstake suit finally filed Friday
Published on Sun Nov 4, 2007 6:10 pm

Michael Morris – In Focus

You may have heard recently that Henry Smith had filed a lawsuit against Otero County and nearly all of his deputies on Monday of last week. Well the Monday thing was from the pens of Alamogordo Lord of Loon Karl Anderson and his nominal editor Michael Becker at the Alamogordo Daily News. Of course the suit (PDF) was not filed until Friday shortly after the filing was questioned on the Mike Haymes radio show. What did you expect? The ADN to have it right? You’re kidding? While the story of how this got filed is better than what was filed, it is not important.

State of Affairs : Lord Karl to Enlighten us all
Published on Fri Nov 2, 2007 6:50 pm

Michael Morris - In Focus

If you missed the Mike Haymes Show this morning on KRSY you missed Lord Karl Anderson getting a might defensive as questions about the accuracy of his reporting managed to get on the show. For those of you unfamiliar with Lord Karl Anderson he writes fiction and conjecture for the Alamogordo Daily News. Apparently after lying to us and confusing us with his "anything goes" style of reporting Anderson is staged to enlighten us on Saturday. (LISTEN TO ANNOUNCEMENT)
