NEW YORK, June 15 (Our New York News) — Wall Street’s semiconductor trade has become one of 2026’s strongest market bets, with BlackRock Inc.’s iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) at the center of a rally tied to artificial-intelligence and data-center spending.

Fox Business reported June 9 that SOXX was up 89% year to date. BlackRock, the fund’s sponsor, says the ETF tracks the NYSE Semiconductor Index, giving investors a way to buy a basket of chip companies through one fund.

For investors and money managers in New York City, the move stands out because semiconductor and AI infrastructure shares have become one of the market’s clearest growth trades. The fund’s rise also shows how much capital has moved into the companies that supply the chips and hardware used to build and run AI systems.

BlackRock’s product page identifies SOXX as the iShares Semiconductor ETF under the firm’s iShares lineup. The fund is built to follow the performance of the NYSE Semiconductor Index rather than to pick stocks one by one.

That structure has made SOXX a simple proxy for investors who want targeted exposure to the chip sector without choosing a single company. As semiconductor shares climbed, the ETF became one of the most visible ways for investors to capture that move.

Market coverage has broadly linked the rally to rising demand for AI chips and the physical data-center infrastructure needed to support AI workloads. That includes spending on processors, memory, networking and other semiconductor-heavy systems used by cloud and data-center operators.

Industry growth has reinforced that trade. Market reports published in June cited first-quarter 2026 semiconductor revenue of $298.5 billion, up 25% from the fourth quarter of 2025.

An April forecast from International Data Corp., or IDC, projected that the semiconductor market would exceed $1 trillion in revenue by the end of 2026. That forecast has helped support the view that the industry is in a powerful upcycle rather than a short-lived spike.

The gains have mattered most to investors, but the effect reaches further. Higher valuations in semiconductor shares can improve companies’ ability to raise capital, support expansion plans and reward shareholders, while also increasing the exposure of pensions, advisers and retail investors that use sector funds.

Fund profiles reviewed in market coverage have described SOXX as a concentrated portfolio of about 30 stocks with major weight in large and mid-sized semiconductor companies. Companies identified in those profiles as leading holdings include Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MU), Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD), Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO), Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC).

That concentration can magnify returns when chip stocks are rising. It can also raise risk if demand slows, pricing weakens or spending on AI infrastructure cools.

The pace of the move appears to have accelerated during the spring. Separate market coverage in late April said SOXX had already risen by more than 45% for the year at that point, well before the larger gain cited in early June.

Other semiconductor-focused exchange-traded funds also posted strong gains this year, adding to evidence that the buying has spread well beyond a single fund or stock. Still, SOXX has drawn special attention because of its clear focus on established chip names and its role as a widely followed semiconductor benchmark for ETF investors.

For New York’s financial community, the rally underscores how central semiconductors have become to the broader AI trade. In a market increasingly shaped by spending on data centers and computing power, semiconductor ETFs have emerged as one of the clearest ways investors are expressing confidence in the next stage of AI buildout.
