WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital on the morning of June 14, and his office said the Kentucky senator was receiving “excellent care.”

Spokesperson David Popp did not disclose why McConnell, 84, was hospitalized or identify the hospital.

On June 16, Popp told CBS News that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell was also hospitalized earlier this year after what his office described as “flu-like symptoms.”

Popp said on Feb. 2 that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing those symptoms over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged Feb. 10 after about eight days in the hospital. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
