NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies referred a hit-and-run case involving Paul Pelosi, 86, to prosecutors after a July 3 collision in Yountville, where investigators said he struck a legally parked car and drove away.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street. According to the office, Pelosi later told investigators he hit something but said he did not know what he had struck.
The sheriff’s office said a preliminary alcohol screening test returned a 0.00 reading, and investigators ruled out DUI. Deputies did not arrest Pelosi, saying that is common for misdemeanor traffic offenses under California Penal Code section 853.6.
The case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review, and the sheriff’s office said a California DMV re-evaluation referral was also forthcoming. No injuries were reported.
The incident comes four years after the Napa County District Attorney’s Office said it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi over a May 28, 2022 collision in the county. In that case, the office said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content and that Pelosi was due to appear for arraignment in Napa County Superior Court.
