NEWS UPDATE – Sen. Lindsey Graham Dies at 71 Following Brief and Sudden Illness

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has died at the age of 71 after what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness.” The announcement was made Sunday, with the senator’s family requesting privacy as they mourn his passing.

Graham served in the U.S. Senate since 2003, becoming one of South Carolina’s longest-serving senators and a prominent figure in national politics. His death marks the end of more than two decades of service in the Senate.

No additional details about the illness were immediately released by his office. Family members expressed gratitude for the prayers and support they have received during this difficult time while asking the public to respect their privacy.

Funeral arrangements and memorial service details have not yet been announced.

WASHINGTON, July 12 (DC Times Online) — The official Senate biography for Sen. Lindsey Graham still described him as serving South Carolina, and his office page remained active, with no confirming death notice available in the official Senate materials reviewed.

Graham’s Senate biography says he was elected to the chamber in 2002 and began representing South Carolina in 2003. It also lists him as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and a member of the Appropriations, Judiciary and Environment and Public Works committees.

Britannica says Graham was born July 9, 1955, in Seneca, South Carolina, and served in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2003. His Senate office page lists a Washington office in the Russell Senate Office Building and an Upstate office in Greenville.
