WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — The Senate rejected Sen. Tim Kaine’s Iran war powers resolution 50-47 on Wednesday, blocking an effort to require President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval before any further U.S. military action involving Iran. Sen. Rand Paul voted present.

The vote came after Trump met privately with Senate Republicans at a closed-door lunch on Capitol Hill. Sen. Bill Cassidy later said Trump “raised his voice” during the meeting and that “I lost my temper.”

Trump then thanked allies on Truth Social, saying the vote “puts Iran on notice.”

Two Republicans, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, voted for the resolution. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania voted no. Kaine’s measure had advanced last month on a 50-47 procedural vote, when four Republicans backed moving it forward.

The day before Wednesday’s vote, the Senate passed a separate Iran resolution 50-48 after the House approved a similar measure earlier in the month.
