SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — A Sydney woman who survived a shark attack at Coogee Beach has woken briefly from an induced coma and told her mother and partner, “I love you,” according to an update from her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Stewart said doctors were able to extubate Leah Stewart and reduce her sedation, allowing a short period of wakefulness in the intensive care unit. Her brother said the moment gave the family hope after days of critical care.

Leah Stewart was attacked on June 13 and has undergone multiple surgeries, including surgery to remove her arm, according to the family update relayed by Joshua Stewart. He said she had been in critical condition for more than a week after the attack.

In a later update, Joshua Stewart said Leah Stewart is awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff. He also said she was reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the incident.
