CALHOUN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, June 20 (Infinite Headlines) — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said six people were arrested after a June 6 fight at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River, where authorities say more than 20 people were involved and further arrests are expected.

The office identified the arrested suspects as Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell and Taylor Knudson. The sheriff’s office said they face various assault and breach-of-peace charges.

Sheriff Thomas Summers said the disturbance was tied to the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run and that alcohol was a factor. Deputies also found numerous cases of underage drinking, he said.

Authorities said at least three people were injured in the fight, with injuries ranging from swollen eyes to head injuries. Summers described the injuries as severe.

Video released by the sheriff’s office showed multiple fights and people crowding around the scene in shallow water at the popular river sandbar.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and that detectives are still reviewing video and public submissions. Summers said this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.
