CINCINNATI, July 24 (DC Times Online) — Consumers in Texas, Louisiana and several other states should check eggs sold under Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire’s, Country Morning and Sunups labels after Midwest Poultry Services recalled more than 1.5 million dozen eggs over possible salmonella contamination.

The voluntary recall covers white and brown cage-free shell eggs sold in 6-, 18-, 24-, 30- and 60-count cartons and in bulk to food-service customers, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration notice posted July 22. The eggs were produced at farms in Texas and distributed from June 6 through July 3.

The recalled products were sold at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, Brookshire Grocery Co. stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Mississippi, and other retailers. The FDA said the affected eggs carry codes P-1950 or 0840962, Julian dates 157 through 184, and best-by or sell-by dates from July 20 through Aug. 17.

Midwest Poultry Services said it was not aware of any illnesses linked to the recalled eggs.
